I Like To Watch the PBR

0

Hello,
The most disciplined man I ever met told me that a person shouldn’t watch television. He said that all of us only have 24 hours a day and that each minute should be traded for only something of value. Why would you spend valuable time watching someone else make a living when you could be doing something that could help you prosper was the question, He ask me? Because I admire so many qualities about this man I agreed with him but he didn’t know that I was really a closet Television guy. In the evening after the day is over and I’ve had my dinner I like to retire to my room and watch a little TV. That can’t be all bad, A person needs to relax a little so that’s what I do.

I’ve gotten interested in the Bull ridding and the PBR but because it’s on, on Saturday and Sunday nights I barley knew it was on, but my wife records it for me so when I get a chance I watch it. As in all sports there’s always a guy that is dominating every year and it’s fun to watch anyone do, what they do, when there at the top of there game. The other night I was watching it and they showed a statistic that said that no bull rider had ever repeated as the champ, the best anyone had ever done the following year was 6th and injuries wasn’t the reason. Every guy came right back the following year after dominating for an entire season and couldn’t even get in the top five. Same guy, same tecnic, same bulls, and can’t win. That’s amazing. I’m not saying that tecnic and fundamentals aren’t important because without skill and knowledge about your trade you don’t have a chance. What I’m saying is, that your telling me that a guy who is the best guy in the world at something. No one can beat him and 30 days latter he can’t even get in the top 5. Several of these guy finished out of the top 10. Tell me winning isn’t mental. I think why this information hit home with me is because the same thing has been happening to me. For months I dominated the best guys in the world and that’s not an easy task and like in the story Cinderella at the stroke of midnight on December 31 it’s been a struggle. I don’t feel any different and I’m ridding the same horse but I’m barley in the top 15. People say that a person looses some motivation after a great year but I don’t feel I have, but I know one thing that will remotivate anyone is losing. It stinks and I’m sick of it. I’ve heard it said that winning is 90% mental and I don’t know what percentage it is but I know that if your not motivated and your not committed to the cause your just another guy going through the motions. That’s why it’s important to have specific goals and your primary goals should be written down so you can see it everyday so you know exactly what your working for. A person has to have that desire to want to get out of bed in the morning and ask yourself, what can I do today to improve myself and help me reach my goal. Something that drives you on when other people are tired and discouraged and are not willing to work through the tuff spots, without a goal and without desire were like a ship out in the ocean without a rudder hoping to drift into port. There’s a chance it could happen but not likely. If the most talented bull rider in the world can only finish 6th when he’s not 100% focused and were not the most talented to begin with were do you think we will finish if were not focused 60th? Not good enough for me!
When I was a little boy I don’t remember telling my mother I want to grow up and be the 60th best team roper in the world. I said I want to be the best and I’m sure that almost everyone feels the same way in what ever you do. All of us want to be successful and I’m not kidding myself or you by saying you can just think your way to the top. We’ve got to work at it and develop our skills but along with that we have to be mentally strong and not let up. Anyone can laugh and tell jokes when there winning but let’s see how they do when there faced with a little adversity.
Tuff times are only a test for strong people but I’m convinced that to have a great year it starts with a great week and that starts with a great day. One step at a time and winning starts between our ears. I read one time that we can ruin the future by thinking about the past weather it was good or bad. It’s over, forget about it and live in the present. Come December when the NFR is over I want the professional bull riders to be setting at home watching TV and the announcer says Walt Woodard finished 2nd last year and struggled the first part of the season but came back and won the World Championship. I want them to think thank goodness he doesn’t ride bulls because we would have to deal with him. There lucky I don’t, because there’s only one thing that holds me back. Pure Fear!
Until Next Month
Thanks for your time
Walt Woodard
